“At the time of Robert the Bruce, the castle at Caerlaverock stood closer to the River Nith.

Bruce recaptured the castle from the English in 1313.

Guests will explore the site of the old castle, in addition to the magnificent three-sided stronghold of the Maxwells.

They will learn of Bruce’s connections to Caerlaverock and the brutal murder of the second Roger Kirkpatrick, son of his ally, also Roger, who famously came to his aid at Greyfriars Kirk…
