Imagining a Queer Caerlaverock

Queer Caerlaverock was an utter revelation yesterday. Profound + Prolific.

The discussions were literally EPIC.

What a journey of discovery and co-creation we undertook, exploring concepts of queerness through the lens of shifting societal norms across time, navigated with help from the powerhouses that are Alchemist Dawn Berry + Historian Mary Craig from Maiden Mother Crone CIC, and our wonderfully inspiring / inspired participants.

We hung out in The Imaginarium occupying the liminal spaces that house shifting perspectives and socio-historical experiences of sexuality and gender identity / gender non-conformity, real and imagined, to help us bridge the gaps that exist in the representation and understanding of our queer heritage.

The Alchemy of Autonomy, The Transcendence of Duality, Individuation, Symbology, Constructs of Community, Queer Identities, Lailoken, James Barry, Greek / Roman Mythology, Quantum Sciences, Divine VS Human Love, and the realms of the Fae / Faeries were all touched up, by way of attempting to give you a flavour of the day

Complex and compelling explorations, which provided the starting point from which to foster ideas which generated the design for a new queer artefact, directly inspired by the carvings of Caerlaverock.

The Queer Caerlaverock journey continues…

Thanks out to Val, Rosie & Terry and the team Caerlaverock Castle, Historic Environment Scotland for all their support and invaluable inputs.

Delivered in partnership with The Stove Network and Dumfries Pride 2024.
