The Bruce Women. A Talk for International Women’s Day

From the women trustees of the Medieval Bruce Heritage Trust, a heart felt tribute to the Bruce women.

Please join us for the return of the MBHT’s most heralded talks, for International Women’s Day.

Bringing to life some of the women who knew and loved Bruce to audiences, the Bruce Women presentation is an invitation to walk through the mists of time to a catch a glimpse of the courage and tenacity of those women.

The presentation covers the stories of Bruce’s mother Marjorie, Countess of Carrick, the lives of the Bruce sisters, his daughter Marjorie, and his queen, Elizabeth de Burgh and Isabella, Countess of Buchan who defiantly crowned Bruce at Scone.

The character traits that the sisters shared were perhaps a legacy from their mother, Marjorie, Countess of Carrick. The Bruce women were intelligent, compassionate, religious, politically aware and active in the politics of their day. We honour them by remembering them.

A profile of their lives, their marriages and their harsh imprisonment, aswell as details of the places associated with these women will remind the audience that the history of Bruce, and the women portrayed, are deeply rooted in the geography of Dumfries & Galloway, reaching across Scotland, and into parts of England.
