Visiting The Ladies of Lochearnhead.

It was time to take another pilgrimage to the grave of yet another phenomenal #Queer #Suffragette with links to Dumfries & Galloway.

Took her a copy of Wendy’s new book all about her life, which launches tomorrow! <*hint hint!> 📖

What a stunning final resting place.

Also had the pleasure of visiting her house (thanks for such a warm welcome A 🙏🏽)

Quite literally: ‘The House That Jack Built’ (well most of it) and saw the trees she’d planted to act as a privacy screen so that her and her other 2 ladies (yes they were an open thruple!) could happily go about their skinny dipping! 😂🙌🏽

Absolutely L♥️VE their world - more ground breaking hetronormative-history-smashing queer joy and acceptance, coupled / thruppled with even more outstanding endeavours in WW1 as ambulance drivers in Serbia, Russia (during the start of the revolution) etc.. what these incredible women did is mindblowing and the open happy lives they lived just fills me up with such proper #QueerJoy + #Pride

We sure do stand on the shoulder of giants! ✊🏽👏🏽🙌🏽

More more more to come about the extraordinary world of Vera ‘Jack’ Holme - and her life in (and outwith) Galloway. Watch this space!

- Ps did I mention she was #EmmelinePankhurst chauffeur?

- That she was what was referred to back then as a ‘cross-dresser’?

- Made her living pre suffragette / pre-war as a ‘Male Impersonator’ ?

- Or that she also was a core part of #ElsieInglis team?

- That Jack and their partner Evelina are heralded (still to this day) as national heroes in Serbia for all the work they did to save lives of Serbians and orphaned children during and after #WW1 says so so much.
