Flora Enters The School Curriculum.
Today we finally did it! After many months of excited planning, the awesome Ms Deborah Hodgson, History Teacher extraordinaire @ Kirkcudbright Academy introduced Dr Flora Murray into the school curriculum for the very first time.
It was such a moment for me as her class also had my beloved daughter in it (she’s the catalyst to make this happen) so it felt pretty amazing that it came full circle, as she’d been the one who helped me do some of the initial research on Flora… my own wee Enola Holmes.
I had the pleasure of co-creating and co-delivering the lesson plan, talking the pupils through my journey with Flora, showcasing how you can harness humanities in varied and creative ways in the workplace / for our communities, the importance of visibility and representation and revealing our under- represented / lesser known histories.
So much respect out to Ms Hodgson, Mrs McDougall & co @ Kirkcudbright Academy, and my fabulous daughter Grace for instigating this incredible step in raising awareness of Flora’s story, and women’s / queer history or rather herstories locally.
P.s. Ms Hodgson has thee best classroom, incredibly engaging and inspiring! Much respect.
