Flora’s Remembrance Service @ Dalton Parish Church.

One of the very important things to me in my journey to bring Flora home, was to host a Memorial Service at her family Parish Church in Dalton.

The Memorial Service we organised on the anniversary of her passing in JUly grew too big to be hosted in this stunning little church, so I avowed to bring a version of it to her own local congregation,, which we did as part of Armistice Day Remembrance Services.

In keeping with our event in July, my Dr Flora Murray Appreciation Society comrade Tracey Little and I organised and hosted the event, with speeches from Lord Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong, Factor of the Church Andrew Morton who also performed, as did local queer female piper Lani O’Neil, giving us another haunting presence to proceedings, and local queer accordianist Lee McQueen performed his special piece created in memory of Flora.

The wonderful congregation hosted us afterwards with some tea and glorious homemade cake. An incredibly heartwarming evening on a rather chill night. This is one of the final events to happen in this gorgeous little church before it closes at Christmas, it will be missed dearly.

Another chance to remember and herald the incredible Dr Flora Murray with the ‘Gloriously Happy’ Dr Flora Murray Appreciation Society & the congregation of Dalton Parish Church

This time in collaboration with the congregation at Flora’s family church @ Dalton, the inimitable Tracey Little (in a private capacity) and  myself had the honour of taking the helm once again to present a candlelit evening of performances and guest speakers honouring Flora’s memory and remembering her incredible Deeds, Not Words!

You are cordially invited to join us for a very special candlelit event remembering the phenomenally inspiring life of Dr Flora Murray, in her family church for Remembrance Week.

Daughter of Dalton nr Dumfries, Suffragette, Medical Pioneer, Radical Activist and LGBTQ+ Icon, Flora was a true Rebel Queen of the South.

This joyful remembrance event will commemorate and pay tribute to the life and legacy of Dr Flora Murray through Gloriously Happy live performances and special guest speakers reflecting her life the way she lived it: with pride, activism, creativity and by utilising the arts.
