Dr Flora Murray Centenary Memorial Service.
What an incredibly auspicious, emotive and significantly special day it has been. Full of Love Care Compassion and Powerful Comradery.
A whole year ago we began to build up to today’s Centenary Memorial for oor Dr Flora Murray
What a day it proved to be, we are sooooo grateful for all the immense enthusiastic support we have received.
Major props go out to…
- My beloved co-conspirator, comrade and co-founder of the Dr Flora Murray Appreciation Society - the Mrs to my Colonel Dugout: the inimitable Tracey Little
- The infinitely generous and patient Sandy Sweetman for all the tech / sound support
- The Crichton Trust team for all their support & enduring encouragement, providing us with the use of the stunning Crichton Memorial Church.
- Susi Briggs for penning her beautiful Scots spoken word piece dedicated to the memory of Flora & Louisa (virtual version)
- Rachel Walker & Aaron Jones for allowing us to record + playback their phenomenal live version (recorded live @ Dumfries Museum earlier this week) of Sunflowers - thee most beautiful of songs also dedicated to Flora / Louisa
- Lani O’Neill for providing thee most evocative renditions of WW1 tunes that Flora would’ve been familiar with on the bagpipes for us. I’ve still got goosebumps thinking about the atmosphere in Crichton Memorial Church when you were playing
- Cairn Chorus Choir for providing such an emotive and appropriate live soundtrack
- Lee Mcqueen for such an amazing surprise after the service with his own specially composed tune for Dr Flo and for entertaining our guests
- The People’s Project, Dumfries / Mark Jardine for the encouragement and for sponsoring the flowers for the service
- Our perfectly poignant speakers who each represented and reflected upon important aspects of Flora’s life Dr Heather Currie / Lindsey Mason Ross - Humanist Celebrant / Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries & Galloway Fiona Armstrong / Reader Andrew Morton
- My PA extraordinaire Grace CM for being such a wonderful support (event prep, hosting + emotional )
Most importantly though, all of you who turned up to pay your respects 100 years to the day on from her death, to the trailblazer that is Dr Flora Murray.
Still actually can’t believe we made this happen from the fragments of a though / wish to a manifestion beyond my wildest dreams... What an honour. What a joy. What a remarkable human. What an inspiration!
